All fishing units for hooks, leashes, fishing lines

Any fishing equipment consists of several elements that are interconnected. The simplest way to connect is a carabiner, but on the one hand you also need to attach a fishing line to it. In general, whatever one may say, you can’t do without nodes.

Many novice anglers have come across a situation where you get ready for fishing for a long time, come to a pond, expect a good catch, and here it is a happy moment - the float abruptly goes under water, and the rod almost flies from the stand. Without a doubt, a large fish swallowed the bait. But after hooking for some reason, the heaviness on the other end of the gear is not felt. You take out a fishing rod, and you see a piece of fishing line instead of a trophy, which safely went away with the hook. Is it a shame? Not that word!

Almost all newcomers experienced this. And all because it is not enough just to buy the necessary elements for making gear, you need to know how to connect them correctly, in particular how to knit fishing knots. Today, there are many different fishing knots: for the main fishing line, for leashes and all types of hooks, for braids and so on. Many options at first glance are similar to each other, but in reality they differ from each other in such important characteristics as strength and durability.

Now many manufacturers of fluorocarbon, nylon, kapron lines and cords attach special inserts with recommendations for knots to their products. They have enough examples to correctly tie a hook, leash or clasp to the fishing line and not lose interest in fishing after the first failure. So, what are fishing knots, how to knit them?

How to achieve big catches?

Over many years of experience in fishing for various species of fish, the most effective methods have been found:

  1. Using special activators . This pheromone-based activator lures fish hardest of all at any time of the year. Reviews and discussions of this bait here .
  2. Use sensitive gear . Read these methods in the appropriate section.
  3. Albumin-based lures . You can read here .

Nodes for connecting two lines

Below are ways to knit knots on a fishing line.

Marine surgical unit. With its help, you can tie a torn fishing line in just a couple of seconds. To do this, fold the two running ends and several times wrap them around the main ones, then bring them up, cross them (like shoelaces on boots) and, grasping the root ends with your fingers, stretch them to the sides well. A simple and fairly strong unit is ready to perform its function.

Oak knot. It fits by folding the two ends, creating a loop and tightening a simple knot. At the same time, it is important to back off at least 10 cm from the edge, otherwise the knot will “slip” when tightened. Then the excess can be cut off. You can tie it even faster than the previous one, but anglers use it only in the most extreme cases. And not only because such a node is not very reliable. Its main disadvantage is the sticking ends, which in the water cling to everything that is possible. The only plus is the speed of tying.

Triple fishing knot. Suitable for joining monofilaments of the same thickness or with a difference of up to 0.05 mm. It is done on the same principle as the previous version. It is necessary to fold and align both ends, retreat a little from the edge, tie a simple knot, bring the ends into it two more times and tighten it tightly. Both fishing lines should be tightened simultaneously, without the formation of loops and voids. Surpluses are cut off 2 cm from the assembly.

Water knot. Such a connection is considered one of the most durable. To make it, you need to attach the ends of two woods in the direction towards each other (they should go parallel), pick up the running and root ends and tie them with a simple knot, with only two, three or even four turns. More than four should not be done. This is quite enough, after a delay it is almost impossible to untie. The water node is inconvenient in that one end has to be pulled into the loop, so it is not suitable for connecting too long lines.

Flemish knot. This option has another name - the oncoming eight. In fact, these are two eights, one for each connected end. How to make them? First, the form of the number “8” should take one running end, then a second one is set towards it, and similar actions are carried out with it. The result should be a double eight. Tighten should be leisurely, carefully so that the figure eight retains its shape. Stretching to the sides of the root ends will help to strengthen the knot even more.

Herbal Knot. It is used to connect two lines of the same diameter. Their ends must be arranged in parallel, each wrapped around the root end of the opposite fishing line and held under its root end. Now it remains only to tighten and the assembly is ready. It has several advantages at once, namely: simplicity of knitting, it is easy to dissolve it if necessary, it holds the load well.

For connecting fishing line with a leash

Fishing nodes for leashes fit as follows.

Surgical unit. It is used by doctors for suturing wounds. Fishermen took it into service, as it is suitable for connecting woods of different types and diameters (for example, 0.25 mm braids with a monolesk of 0, 35 mm). It is necessary to fold both threads in parallel, form a loop from them, let the running ends into it and make an overlap. This step is repeated several times, and then by pulling the root and running ends, the knot is tightened. According to the assurances of experienced fishermen, the surgical unit can withstand a load of up to 30 kg.

Loop to loop. This method of fastening is much more reliable than other nodal joints, it is an excellent replacement for a carbine. At both ends of the connecting lines you need to tighten the hinges with a simple knot. Further, the loop of the leash is thrown on the loop of the main fishing line, through which its end is displayed. After stretching the main fishing line and the leash in opposite directions, a strong reliable connection is formed. Its main advantage is the possibility of instant dismantling, if it becomes necessary to put another leash.

Centaur Knot. A universal method that allows you to connect monofilament of different diameters, as well as monofilament fishing line with a braided cord. First, both ends fold together. Then one thread is wrapped around the other several times with free rings so that the end can be passed through them. The same actions are carried out with the second thread. The last step is to tighten the knot by simultaneously pulling at the long ends.

Albright node. Quite a popular fishing unit, often used by spinningists to maintain the sensitivity of gear. You can also tie thin leashes in feeder or float fishing in this way. The albright is knitted as follows: one fishing line folds in half, and the second needs to be brought into the loop obtained and wrapped up to 10 times, after which the end should be drawn into the remaining small loop. The knot is tightened, and you can begin fishing. It will have high strength even when connecting very thin lines.

Bloody knot. A terrible name for the guilty sailors, who in the old days were punished with a whip with such knots, and quite acceptable for fishing enthusiasts. The line tied with such a knot retains up to 95% of the load capacity declared by the manufacturer, and this is an extremely important characteristic. To learn how to knit bloody knots, a lot of time is not required, the main thing is to be careful and not to miss anything. First, the two ends overlap, after which one of them wraps around the other 6-7 times. After that, he returns to the beginning of the winding and is passed between two monofilaments. This place should be clamped with your fingers. A similar winding should be done with the free end of another fishing line, in the same way return it back and pass through the forests. The result is two nodules that are pulled together in turn. In a correctly made bloody knot, the ends after pulling are directed in different directions.

Fishing unit carrot. This is a favorite option of supporters of feeder fishing, because due to its size and shape, such a knot easily slips through the winding rings of the rod. It is also suitable for a wide variety of materials and combinations. For example, ordinary and fluorocarbon, monophilic and braids, woods of different diameters (shock leader fastening). A properly connected and well-drawn “carrot” is not much thicker than the fishing line itself. They knit it like this: the two ends are folded towards each other, one of them is tied with a free knot at the other at a distance of about 20-25 cm from the edge, with this piece you need to wrap the first fishing line in the opposite direction (up to 10 turns), and then insert it end in a knot, which was tied at the very beginning. Tighten the "carrot" must be simultaneously for both fishing lines, protruding ends can be cut. Some anglers cover this knot with waterproof glue to give it smoothness.

The best fishing knots for hooks

There are many different ways to tie a hook to a fishing line. Which one of them to choose, the fisherman decides for himself, taking into account which product is in his hands, with a ring or with an eye. Consider the most common fishing hook options.

Spindle - a reliable, durable, withstand heavy loads node. Suitable for any synthetic materials, fits on the forearm, never slides to the tip. The sequence of tying is as follows: the running end is led into the eyelet towards the sub-bend (bend), a flat loop is formed from it along the forearm, several turns are made around it from the eyelet (usually 4 or 5), the end is brought into the remaining loop. Now you need to hold it with your finger and pull the fishing line on the opposite side. The knot is self-tightening, when the hooked fish abuts, it becomes even stronger.

Clinch - otherwise it is also called a gripping knot. Using it, you can reliably fix not only the hook at the end of the fishing line, but also any snap-in element that has a hole (swivel, crown, and others). Clinch perfectly withstands the load. To make it, you need to thread the running end into the eye, turn it in the opposite direction, twist the fishing line (6-7 turns, loose), return to the first turn, pass it into a small loop near the eye and bring it out through the resulting large loop. Then the loops are pulled together and the knot is ready.

Salmon is a simple and at the same time very durable knot, as you can already guess from the name. Suitable for all types of woods. How to tie? The running end winds into the eye, then double-wraps around the root, lowers down, winds over the root and extends into the lower loop. Everything is prepared for tightening the knot, but the previous design should be lowered onto the hook forearm.

Turtle (turle) - the simplest knot that will not do fishing line any harm. On kapron and nylon, it tends to be untied, so it is more advisable to use it with braided cords. The running end should be threaded into the eye and form a regular loop without tightening it. Then bring the hook into the loop and only now tighten. The final touch is trimming the excess tip.

Deflection is the best option for hooks with a spatula instead of an eyelet. Suitable for any synthetic materials, tied on the forearm. The running end is carried out along the forend towards the hook, 6 turns are made towards the fishing line, the end returns through the formed loops down. It remains only to gently tighten the knot, evenly pulling both ends, root and chassis.

Useful Tips

Some recommendations of experienced anglers:

  • Before tying a knot on a mono-fishing gear, experienced fishermen advise holding it in the sun so that the material becomes softer.
  • If it is a braided cord, then it is recommended to moisten the structure with water before final tightening of the assembly.
  • To tie a hook, you should choose one of the simplest options. The simpler the knot, the less strain the line is subjected to. In this case, reliability directly depends on the number of excesses.

This material examined all common fishing units and loops.

Each fisherman more than once had to return from fishing without a catch. There are many reasons for this - bad weather, pressure, not that bait ... as in the saying - "pecks either yesterday or tomorrow."

Palomar Knot

“Palomar” is probably the simplest and most universal unit. You can talk about its versatility forever, because it is suitable for swivels, ear hooks, baubles and wobblers, etc. And also feels good fishing lines and braids of any type. The best knot in the ratio of ease of knitting / strength / reliability.

Grinner Knot

"Grinner" is another fairly popular site, which is used in the same vein. But most often for tying weights. For some anglers, the load-bearing capacity and durability of this unit made it exclusively a unit for sinkers. Also, do not forget that due to the versatility of this unit, with its help you can tie the braid to the spool of the coil or even tie the fishing line together. It is perfect for all types of fishing line, but best for braids.

Snell knot (Snell knot or Snelling a Hook)

Snell is an excellent and rather peculiar marine knot. Original, probably due to the fact that it fits on the forend of the hook, just like the nodes for hooks with a spatula. And probably, because it is not distinguished by its versatility as the past, purely a knot for hooks. Yes, yes, it is also suitable for a hook with a spatula, but this is pointless. for these purposes there are specialized nodes.

According to the knitting technique, I would like to add that at least we recommend making 5 turns, and not as in scheme 3. You can go up to 10, it will not get any worse.

G8 node

The G8 is a well-known knot that is simply indispensable in mountaineering. But he also found his application in fishing. It is tied up and memorized quite, a couple of repetitions and you will definitely remember it. Suitable for any kind of fishing line. It pulls together under tension. It was invented by the ancient Incas, but is still used.

Knotless Knot or Hairline for Boilies (Knotless Knot)

“Knotless knot” - it is precisely its carpathians who can blindfold under water and with just one little finger in a couple of seconds. Hair snap is really popular and almost every fisherman knows it.

Since this is not such a simple knot in its execution, the rules for it are more serious. For example, flurocar is undesirable to use or use only in conjunction with hooks with an eye. While knitting it is better to moisten it with water so as not to damage the knot. You can also strengthen it with a special glue for fishing line. And remember that, similar knots with turns around the forend of the hook should be smooth and without crosshairs and overlaps.

Clinch Knot

Sea, he is a fishing node "Clinch". It is characterized by high strength and relatively easy to fit, most of the anglers probably use it, because in our opinion it is the best for this task.

It is also worth remembering that it is best to knit this knot with a fishing line up to 0.4 mm., Tk. with a thicker one he will not be so firmly pulled together.

It is very versatile, suitable for absolutely everything: hooks, fishing lines, feeders, flies, wobblers. As for the hooks, it is better to use this fishing line for small and medium hooks, and very large hooks of sizes 3/0 and larger are better excluded for this knot.

There are many varieties and variations of the Clinch node that we will tell you about.

Canadian Eight Knot (Canadian Eight Knot)

An excellent analogue to the G8 node. This knot is best knitted on a monofilament line, and the braid is generally excluded. You can link this knot and remember it very quickly. By the way, if you want to, you can untie it, which cannot be done with most nodes.

Domhof Knot

Domhof Knot assembly is a robust assembly primarily used in the Hinged Stiff Rig and Chod Rig rigs.

This unit is recommended to be used only with a fishing line of medium thickness, excluding very thin fishing line. Due to the strong bend in the ear of the hook, the strength is greatly lost, but this disadvantage can be eliminated by using this unit to attach the hook to the shoulder blade.

Ailith Node (Eyelet Knot)

Ailit knot is the most reliable knot for a hook with a spatula. It is also more popular for such hooks than any other listed. It fits simply and the knot is very reliable. As for fishing line, it is better to exclude fluorocarbon for such a knot and generally for hooks with shoulder blades.

Surgical unit

This knot is suitable for fishing lines of different diameters and different materials, and also, if necessary, it can be used to tie fairly thick ropes. Поскольку это очень прочный узел, рыбаки с опытом используют такие узлы для больших нагрузок.

Кровавый узел (Blood knot)

One feature of using this unit is the use of fishing line of the same diameter and material from two sides, i.e. with its help it is desirable to tie the same fishing line to each other.

Leader (Leader knot)

The Leader knot is usually used to connect a stronger fishing line, a braid (shock leader) to the main fishing line for feeder fishing. The knot is very durable and its shape allows the rod rings to pass without unnecessary influences that could adversely affect casting (unlike other nodes). In practice, there are very often fishermen who tied a tattered fishing line and small leashes with it, relying on the reliability of this site.

1. How to knit locking knots

Material for the manufacture of locking assemblies:

The purpose of the locking unit - set the bait or snap-in elements to the desired depth.

Application area - float fishing using a sliding float when fishing over long distances.

Stopper requirements for sliding float:

  • must determine the necessary depth of descent of the float for fishing, and securely fixed on the fishing line,
  • the fixing of the locking assembly must be movable, but without independent movement,
  • the knot should pass unhindered through the gear rings,
  • should not deform the main fishing line.

The locking units are prepared immediately before the on-site fishing process. Before proceeding to knit a knot, you must first moisten the fishing line (with water or saliva) so that it does not heat up in the process and thereby does not weaken the knot itself.

Node Clinch or klinch knot

Node or button knot node
In order to learn how to knit this type of locking assembly correctly, we suggest watching this video

Important! The diameter of the monofilament fishing line should be slightly larger or equal to the diameter of the main one.

  1. In order not to waste valuable time fishing when knotting knots, you can prepare several stoppers in advance by taking a plastic tube (for example, cocktail) of no more than 10 cm, put it on the main fishing line and fasten some of your favorite locks on the tube. Then pull off the tube and tighten the nodes on the fishing line.
  2. It is better to knit two knots at once, one of which is well tightened, this will help to fix each other when playing fish.
  3. When knitting a knot, it is necessary to control the tension of the thread, since when it is relaxed, it can be deformed, which will affect the quality of the structure.
  4. The remaining tips do not need to be cut too short, as they help the knot to easily pass through the rings of the blank of the rod.
  5. We do not recommend hanging beads between the assembly and the float.

2. How to tie two fishing lines together

Scope of nodes for woods - mainly float, bottom and fly fishing. As a rule, such knots fit the main fishing line and leash, and in fly fishing - undergrowth.

What is connected:

  • between themselves fishing lines of various diameters,
  • fishing lines from different materials (for example, monofilament and braid),
  • in case of a break in the fishing process - the main forest of 2 pieces,
  • the main fishing line and the shock leader (a thicker piece of fishing line and 2 times longer in size than the rod, which takes over the entire load when casting).

Important! When connecting two lines, it is necessary to ensure that the strength of the lines at the site of the knot does not suffer. When knitting pieces of fishing thread or a shock leader, you need to ensure that the resulting knot freely passes through the rings of the blank form.

Triple or three-water knot
It is important to remember that when knitting this type of knot, you need to take monophilic fishing lines that are different in their diameter by no more than 0.05 mm. It is subject to this rule that fishing lines will retain about 90% of their load.

This knot will not go through the rings of your rod, therefore it is better to use it in equipment where this is not required.

And here is the training video

Node loop or double loop junction node
A loop called loop to loop is a good alternative to swivel. Sufficiently strong and reliable connection used for fastening the main fishing line and leash.

Node "Blood Ties" or "blood knot"
Other English names for this site:

  • attach knot,
  • fisherman’s bend knot.

To knit this type of knot fishing lines are used with a difference in diameter of no more than 30%.

The advantage of this unit is not only in strength, but also in its compactness, so that it can easily pass through the rod rings. The disadvantage is the complexity and availability of skills in the implementation.

We set the free ends of two threads on top of each other. Then we make 5 turns relative to each other. Take one of the ends of the thread back and drag it under the first turn. We perform a similar manipulation with the second end.

Double Sliding Node
This node can be made as a connecting element of two monophilic woods, and a monophile with a braided cord. However, the diameters of the material used should not have a difference of more than 50%. A sufficiently strong knot, has an advantage over a knot of the form of blood knot.

And here is the execution diagram of this node

3. How to knit knots for joining monofilament fishing line and braid

Conditions affecting the strength of the braid:

It is known that one of the disadvantages of braided fishing line is its ability to become flat after several times of use. Therefore, when forming the node, this must be taken into account. You should also know that the thickness of the cord also affects the strength of the knot, the thicker the weaker the knot.

Shock Leader knot Node
The knot is not large and is able to slip freely through the rings of the rod, which gives it an advantage in use in many types of fishing.

This video illustrates the execution order of the node

Mahin leader knot or carrot node
It is a reliable and compact knot suitable for spinning, feeder and carp fishing rods. Perfectly fastens the braid and the leash of monofilament or flurocarbon. When fishing for carp, it is perfect for tying a shock leader.

If the vases have difficulties with knitting this knot, watch this video from V.Nikolaev

Albright Node
If it comes to quality, we have in mind a universal unit for fishing with various gears. If you are exclusively engaged in spinning fishing and you need to tie a thin fishing line and a braided cord or fasten the leash, then be sure to use this method of knitting. But do not neglect the main rule of linking the lines - fishing lines should not have a strong difference in diameter!

For float fishing, a knot is used instead of a swivel when its presence is not appropriate, since especially delicate snap-in elements are used and the swivel spoils everything with its bulkiness.

4. How to knit knots for a hook without an eye (with a spatula)

In this section, we will introduce you to the simple and complex assemblies of nodes for hooks with a spatula. These hooks are available in small sizes.

A knot on hooks of this kind is difficult to make, since the execution process requires some skill and accuracy. The fishing line should lie on the forend tightly and evenly, without layering layers on top of each other. It is very important after the completion of the process that the fishing line is located on the side of the hook hook and is thus a continuation of its forend. We also recommend applying a little glue to the assembly to maintain the reliability of the structure.

Node "Universal"
Material used fishing line:

Suitable for knitting as a hook with an eye or without.

Ailith knot or eyelet knot
V.Nikolaev in his next video will continue to acquaint you with the rules for knitting knots. We present to your attention a mount called "Ailit"

Trombone Loop Node
Other host names:

  • trombone loop,
  • spade end knot,
  • sliding bait loop.

This knot is well knitted from monowheels and braids. It can be used on various types of hook.

Instructions for implementation:

  1. We take the fishing line and fold it in half so that the tails of the fishing line are parallel to the shoulder blade of the hook.
  2. We make a small loop, leaving the tip of the fishing line about 15 cm long.
  3. We attach a hook to the end of the fishing line, so that its tip is parallel to the forearm of the hook, we press with our fingers.
  4. Next, with the working end of the fishing line, we begin to wrap the forend of the hook several times.
  5. Carefully thread the end of the fishing line into the resulting loop, moisten it with saliva or water and cut off all the excess.

An example of manufacturing a "trombone loop" from V. Nikolaev

External loop winding or trombone loop node
The only rule in the manufacture of this type of knot is that the tighter the line is pulled, the stronger the knot will be.

5. The best knots for connecting hooks and swivels

Before considering the most reliable fishing units in this category, we note that we do not recommend linking fishing line to hooks, swivels or rings made of thinner material (wire) than the line itself, this will negatively affect the quality and reliability of the unit.

Palomar or palomar node
Application area:

  • a bundle of the main fishing thread with a swivel,
  • for tying fishing line and hook,
  • for fastening a weight, swivel, carbine, etc.,
  • for attaching silicone lures to a leash or fishing line.

Disadvantage - It is required to fold the fishing line in half, which increases the knot in volume and shortens the leash.

Advantage of the node:

  • a bunch of not only monophilic woods, but also a braided cord and lures used both in spinning fishing and fishing on feeder gears,
  • the possibility of attaching many elements of equipment (swivels, hooks, flies, etc.),
  • easy to knit.

Clinch node or improved clinch knot
Consider two types of this node:

This knot is widely used, but has especially proven itself in fishing for spinning. The first version of the assembly is used mainly for the installation of sinkers, since it is inferior in strength to the “reinforced” assembly, which even the most difficult hooks do not obey.

Scope of the site: artificial baits, jig heads, cargo, hooks, swivels, sinkers, feeders, carbines.

Where such a node is not used:

  • for mounting weights with a transverse or longitudinal hole,
  • for mounting tubes and factory rings.

Important! The eyelet size of the above accessories should not be more than 1.2 mm, since at diameters above the specified indicator the knot is held unreliably.

This fishing knot is designed for fastening both hooks with an eye and without it. It is also suitable for the manufacture of mobile loops, binding feeders, sinkers, leashes. In a word, it is widely used and can be used everywhere.

It is not complicated to perform and is suitable for beginner anglers.

This node can have several options for weaving, for example, folding the fishing line in two you will get a double eight.

6. How to knit knots for wobblers

Before you begin to attach the wobbler to the fishing line, you need to keep in mind that some of the small wobblers are very delicately balanced and any extra fishing accessory (leash, clasp) can significantly affect the game of the bait. Therefore, for each type of wobbler you need to choose your own method of attachment to the fishing line.

Dense loop or homer-rhode loop knot node

The knitting of this knot may be applicable not only to the fastening of wobblers.

Node "Rapala" or "rapala knot"

No loop loop or compound knot
This knitting method is not suitable for small diameter woods. It is better to use braids, Kevlar or fluorocarbon leashes.
