Knowing the simplest traps will help you win fast already at the very beginning of the game.

In this article, we consider how to properly start a game of checkers, and what can you hope in early checkers. This information is recommended primarily for beginners, as qualified drafts players of course know about it.

Suppose that the party in Russian drafts is just beginning. How many moves can one player take to win?

One move, of course, cannot be defeated, but then how quickly can an opponent be won with an incorrect game? We do not consider options in which the opponent begins to give his drafts with his initial moves, as this will be another game - giveaway.

It turns out that you can win at the checkers after the second move! Of course, you won’t get into the ladies for such a short period of the game and you won’t be able to eat a lot of opponent’s checkers. But to win one or two checkers against your opponent is quite realistic.

It should be noted that, having an advantage even in one piece already in the beginning of the game, You can safely count on victory, since the opponent is unlikely to get any positional compensation for this checker after several initial moves. In this situation, you will only have to carefully and without risk play the game before the victory.

Let's move on to the examples.

Example 1. The game starts like this: 1.cd4 hg5 2.bc3 and already in the second move Black can make a mistake: 2 ... de5?

3.gf4! e: g3 4.h: h6 and White has an extra checker.

Example 2. 1.ef4 dc5 2.fe3 cd4?

Black expects to win two white checkers at once after 3.c: e5? f: h4 x

However, the white player has the opportunity to win Black's checker: 3.e: c5 b: d4 4.c: e5 f: d4 5.fg5! h: f4 6.g: c3 and bring the game to victory.

Playing black, you can also count on similar mistakes of the opponent.

Example 3. 1.cd4 hg5 2.dc5?

This mistake, by the way, is quite common among beginner players and allows Black to win the checker: 2 ... d: b4 3.a: c5 b: d4 4.e: c5 gf4! 5.g: e5 f: b6.

Example 4. 1.gh4 fe5 2.hg3?

And here Black wins the checker already on the second move: 2 ... ed4! 3.e: c5 b: d4 4.c: e5 d: h2, practically securing a win for this game in the future.

From the examples considered, novice players must make a very important conclusion for themselves: in order to win, you need to learn to see and conduct the simplest tactical attacks in the game (at least similar to those discussed above).

These skills will also help you avoid your own mistakes and prevent your opponent from winning your checkers and making combinations. You will learn how to learn this from various materials on the site, for example here.

When creating traps, as, however, throughout the game of checkers, you must be vigilant and unravel the opponent’s reciprocal plans in time.

Here is another interesting example of a trap in the opening: one of the players creates a trap for the other, but he himself falls into the trap prepared by the opponent.

Example 5. 1.cd4 ba5 2.bc3 cb6 3.gh4 dc5 4.hg3 bc7?

Black prepared a trap on his last move: now White isn’t allowed 5.ab2? because of 5 ... ab4! 6.c: a5 fg5 7.h: f6 x

But it turns out that White is also not averse to winning the game at the very beginning of the game and their trap has already worked: 5.cb4! a: e5 6.ed4 c: e3 7.d: b8 x

Tip: Aiming win fast, do not let the opponent do the same!

The examples considered are quite simple. There are many such traps at the beginning of the game in Russian drafts, but there are more complex ones. One example of a complex trap that even a novice can fall into can be found in this game (in the comments on White's fifth move).

Since it is not easy for beginners to read the recorded moves and reproduce the situation on the board in their minds, we offer a couple more examples of traps at the very beginning of the game (more complex and spectacular), but in the video format.

Trap at the beginning of the game - for the whites

Trap at the beginning of the game - for black

Traps at the beginning of the game is another way to win checkers, which is often found in a practical game, especially among beginners. The theme of traps at the very beginning of the game of checkers will certainly continue, stay tuned.

How to develop tactics in checkers to win?

So, the main point behind which the game takes place is the center. The center includes four fields. For white checkers, these are fields D4 and F4. And for black drafts these are fields C5 and E5.

The strength of the central fields lies in the fact that being on them, you maximally displace the actions of your opponent if you conduct the right tactics. Each side also has a golden checker. For white, this is a checker located on the E1 square; for black, this is a checker located on the D8 square.

They are called gold, for one simple reason, they can be transferred to any of the flanks at the request of the opponent. That is why at the beginning of the party it is not recommended to disrupt them. That is why tactics in checkers is necessary, without it one cannot win.

The next tactic is that each side has backward checkers. For white - these are checkers A1 and H2, for black - these are checkers A7 and H8 - these checkers should be tried to develop and lead to the central fields, as they hamper your actions and complicate your game. Also in Russian drafts - there is such a thing as airborne fields.

These are fields that are located on the lateral horizontals, but usually they are much weaker than the central ones and it is not recommended to occupy them.

So, here you have gained new knowledge, and have become one step closer to your goal and the ability to win victories over your opponent. Now you can safely try your hand, including the tactics proposed above in a real game with a real player, as well as, in our time, for those who find it difficult to find an opponent, you can play online checkers, with artificial intelligence, or with a real person. Our site has a section with online games, we recommend that you familiarize yourself.

Now you understand the importance of tactics for victory. Also, in the previous article, you got acquainted with the basics of checkers, without knowing which, you are unlikely to succeed in winning. But, having carefully studied these two articles, it will not be difficult for you to win. However, knowledge is a new opportunity. Therefore, we recommend that you read the next article in which we will discuss the issue of combinations.

Victory tactics need to be developed in any sports game. After all, tactics can change during the game, depending on the opponent’s game) A lightning-fast decision is important here! Learning to play checkers now with the whole family, exciting, it is especially interesting to play on your site with a real stranger. “Backward” checkers I do not always manage to develop, but I'm learning! I hold the golden drafts - the victory is behind them 🙂

I completely agree, without the tactics of victory, in our time nowhere, and this applies not only to drafts. This topic is certainly not easy. I re-read several times to understand the whole point and whole point. But now, I understand how this knowledge will be useful to me in the future and will help to conquer and conquer new heights.

The most important thing when playing such games, and especially drafts, is to study, and most importantly, to practice in practice when playing with an opponent - not one tactical device, but several immediately. All this is necessary in order to have sufficient skills to outplay the opponent in any situation that has developed on the board and have room for maneuver, which should not be limited to two or three learned tactics.

This is not tactics, but strategic points that it is desirable to own. Tactics are specific techniques for ensuring these and other strategic and profitable points of position.

Free pace

First about free pace (pace in checkers means a unit of “playing time” measured by moves, that is, one move). Let your whites. Here Black moves. What happens if they attack f4? We'll see. 1 ... f6-e5. So, under attack your checker. Therefore, you also know in advance the next move of the enemy - he will have to beat her. You seem to have a free pace - free in the sense that no matter what move you make, the enemy will not be able to interfere with your plan with his return move: he will be obliged to take the checker f4. This, of course, greatly facilitates the preparation of the combination. You start looking for her and ... find! 2.c1-b2! e5: g3 3.e3-f4 g3: e5 4.c3-b4 a5: c3 5.b2: h8X.
Since the possession of a free pace helps to prepare a combination, therefore it (like a sieve) is a combination motive: the presence of such a pace stimulates the search for a combination. (The modern term "free pace" has supplanted the equivalent, but outdated word "distributor").

Suppose your blacks. Free pace the enemy does not. But here he is playing - 1. f2-e3! d4: f2 (if 1 ... h4: f2, then 2.e3: g5 f2-g1 3. e1-f2 g1: c1 4.g5-h6X) 2.d2-еЗ! f2: d4. Why did the enemy sacrifice two checkers? Just for the sake of getting free pace! And he received: you have under his attack remained his checker gZ. Now you will be required to beat her, and the enemy, knowing this, also attacks - 3.f4-g5, and after you hits - 4. g5: g1 X. To paraphrase the famous proverb, we can say - “The one who attacks last is good” !

You saw how you can get free pace "Violent means" in the process already begun combinations . And now about another combination motive - a checker near the open dam field . Why does the enemy have such a checker increases the likelihood creating you combinations ? The answer is simple: your final blow leads to the appearance of a lady, for which it makes sense to sacrifice even more of your drafts than the enemy will be beaten. Here is the "permissibility" of exceeding the number sacrificial checkers over the number of beaten by the enemy and expands the range of possible combinations.

The combination motif is obvious - checker c7, standing near the open dame fields b8 and d8. Search for a combination leads to success: 1.d4-e5! f6: b2 2.c1: a3 a5: e1 3.g3-h4 e1: g3 4.h4: f6 g7: e5 5.h2: b8 X.
Since the checker near the open dam field makes the position vulnerable, the question may arise: is it not better to delay the movement of checkers of the dam row before moving to the end? After all, then the enemy will no longer have so many combinational possibilities ... However, by doing so, we will reduce one danger and increase the other: when we meet with enemy checkers in the center, we will be fewer and less combat ready.

Let's move on to the examples. Having placed a position on the board, determine the combination motive (or combination thereof) in it and find a way to make the combination.

All of the above applies of course to combinations of. However, knowing the rules of other checkers games (whether Brazilian), you can easily apply the knowledge obtained on this page to find checkers combinations in these.

The right of the first move is given to white checkers. As soon as the opponent’s piece is in front of your checker, how are you obliged to remove it from the board. The lady has another advantage: after she has taken the opponent’s checker, she can be at the desired distance from him.

Learning to play checkers: strategy and secrets

  1. the use of "giveaways". The strategy is based on setting pre-designed traps for the opponent. You need to sacrifice your own checkers in order to conduct winning combinations in the future,
  2. approach between two enemy checkers. Allows you to ensure the safety of your checkers and pick up one of the enemy’s pieces,

Checkers is a popular board game, which, with its seeming initial simplicity, is fraught with many complex combinations and requires increased prudence from the player.

How to play checkers? To do this, you first need a minimum of knowledge, because the basic rule of the game is to "eat" the opponent’s chip. This operation is very simple - you can remove an opponent’s checker from the playing field only if there is a free cell behind it. When novice players play, in order to simplify the development of the rules, they usually agree to “chop” only forward, i.e. it is forbidden to "eat" a checker located behind its own figure.

How to play checkers: rules for beginners

To play checkers, players should know the following key points:

  • in one move the checker passes only one square. An exception is when a checker “cuts” another chip,
  • in one move you can “cut down” as many checkers as they are placed on the path of the piece,
  • when “taking” the opponent’s checkers, they remain on the board until the end of the move,
  • if it is possible to "eat" the opponent’s piece, then it is necessarily "chopped", otherwise it will have to be removed from the playing field on its own,
  • the winner is the player who "takes" all the opponent’s checkers, or deprives the opponent of the opportunity to make another move,
  • a draw is recognized in cases where neither side can win the game,
  • when three dames are on the field against one opponent, no more than 15 moves are given to the winning side.

"Lady" - the main component of the success of the game

The main question for many beginners is how to play checkers and always win. To do this, you need to “break through” into the ladies as quickly as possible - to reach the last row of a chessboard. After that, the checker turns over and gets the right to move along the entire length of the black squares. Accordingly, it “cuts” all the opponent’s chips, not standing next to each other in the adjacent cells.

How to play checkers in order to win: some useful tips

To increase the chances of winning, experts recommend:

  • to enter the opponent in “loves” or attack his weak checker,
  • occupy the central fields of the board with your own checkers,
  • provide central checkers with full protection against an opponent’s attack,
  • try to predict the opponent’s possible moves,
  • independently study the literature on the game of drafts or use the assistant on drafts online.
